Proposed Master Plan / Orange = Development |
As a class the past couple weeks we've been redeveloping a series of sites within Jamaica Plain's community surrounding the Jackson Square T-stop. Taking inspiration from our initial ideas as groups of 3 we are now piecing together a Master Plan. Some key ideas that were carried over are to create a series of linked green spaces while strengthening the street edge. We decided to bring through traffic on Columbus Ave underground. This would allow for a stronger sense of circulation for pedestrians while reducing much of the sites existing chaotic traffic. Bridges were established across the sunken orange line T to connect residential areas to a series of newly established green spaces. We found green spaces and various landscape techniques could frame unsightly street edges offering a "buffer zone" that would improve the quality of the existing community. With further conceptual ideas to be worked out our project seeks to embrace the community's existing character while providing new establishments that could potential increase the quality of life in the community. We aim to be additive w/out blemishing.
